Model 9 uses the Garand-type steel lever which is positioned in the forward section of the trigger guard. It is marked with S and F initials and activated by pushing the lever rearward as far as possible, moving it into the inner side of the trigger guard. Additionally, the rifle comes with a ‘last shot’ feature which is automatically activated when the magazine is empty – a standard trademark on Marlin semi-autos. It allows for the bolt feeding gate to stay open and lets the user know that the last shot has been fired. To switch to the manual bolt hold-open position, the latch on the left side of the receiver must be pulled and the charging handle released. There is a red indicator that protrudes from the rear end of the bolt when a cartridge is in the chamber. The trigger is factory pre-set for a crisp and controllable pull.
